Destiny 2 Weapon Crafting Guide: Mastering the Resonance Foundry and Foundry Shaping Quests

Destiny 2 weapon crafting and Resonance Foundry questlines empower Guardians to customize firearms with powerful perks.

Weapon crafting arrived in Destiny 2 with The Witch Queen expansion, and in 2026 it remains one of the most consequential systems in the entire game. Guardians can now tailor their favorite firearms with hand-picked perks, turning a decent drop into a build-defining powerhouse. Yet for newcomers, lapsed players returning after a long hiatus, or anyone who skipped The Witch Queen entirely, the whole process can feel like reading a language written in Light and Darkness alike. So where exactly does a Guardian begin?

The answer lies with two questlines introduced alongside Season of Plunder: Resonance Foundry and Foundry Shaping. Together they function as a guided tutorial, walking players through Deepsight Resonance weapons, weapon patterns, resonance extraction, and the crafting process itself. Even Guardians who never purchased The Witch Queen should not skip them — the rewards and knowledge are simply too valuable.

🛠️ The Resonance Foundry Quest

Everything starts on Savathûn's Throne World. From the Destinations tab, players travel to The Enclave on the left side of the map. This is where the Resonance Foundry quest begins, and it is also the location Guardians will return to whenever they feel like forging something new.

Upon landing, turn left and pass through the tall, foreboding doorway, then descend a set of stairs. Beyond lies a massive relic — an altar of sorts — with a pendulum swinging overhead. Walk around to its left side and look for a blue crown marker indicating the quest.

Step 1: Acquire the Ammit AR2 Auto Rifle

Initiating the quest grants a Deepsight Resonant Ammit AR2 Auto Rifle, a solid Solar option. Deepsight weapons are recognizable by their red border in the equipment screen. Take it to advance.

Step 2: Use the Weapon in Playlist Activities

Equip the rifle and take it into playlist activities such as Vanguard, Crucible, or Gambit. Completing at least one activity is required, along with filling the Deepsight attunement bar by defeating enemies with the weapon. Once full, extract the resonance from the weapon screen.

Step 3: Do It Again

A second Ammit AR2 with Deepsight Resonance is awarded. Do not dismantle it. Level it to 100% attunement through open-world kills or playlist activities, then extract the resonance once more.

Step 4: Return to the Relic

Head back to The Enclave and turn the quest in on the left side of the relic. The reward is Resonant Alloy, a core crafting material. This unlocks the follow-up tutorial, the Foundry Shaping quest.

⚒️ The Foundry Shaping Quest

Step 1: Acquire the Taipan-4FR Linear Fusion Rifle

Players receive a Deepsight Resonant Taipan-4FR Linear Fusion Rifle, a genuinely strong weapon. Equip it and complete playlist activities to proceed.

Step 2: Play Dares of Eternity or Wellspring

Here the quest offers a choice. Witch Queen owners can run either Dares of Eternity or Wellspring, while those without the expansion must stick to Dares of Eternity. Wellspring carries a chance to drop a Deepsight Throne World weapon, making it the stronger pick for those who can access it — though the zany chaos of Dares remains hard to resist. Either way, keep a Deepsight weapon equipped.

Step 3: Complete the Deepsight Resonance Objective

Attune the weapon to 100% by defeating combatants or running playlist activities, then extract the resonant energy.

Step 4: Return for the Weapon Pattern

Back at The Enclave, interact with the left node of the relic to claim the weapon pattern, permanently unlocking repeat crafting.

Step 5: Shape a Weapon

The relic has two nodes. The front node handles shaping. Select 'Shape Weapon' and pick from Kinetic, Energy, or Power categories. At minimum, the Ammit AR2 and Taipan-4FR are available; the Taipan-4FR is widely regarded as the better long-term investment.

Crafting Requirement Amount
Resonant Elements 750
Resonant Alloy 5
Glimmer 10,000

Resonant Alloy comes from dismantling Legendary purple weapons.

Step 6: Level Up the Crafted Weapon

A freshly shaped weapon starts at level 1. Defeating enemies and completing activities raises its level, unlocking new perks for future crafting attempts. Only one level-up is required for the quest.

Step 7: Return to the Enclave

After reaching level 2, return to the Enclave to collect an Ascendant Alloy and finish the questline.

🎯 Why It Still Matters in 2026

Between these two quests, Guardians gain a working understanding of patterns, resonance, attunement, and shaping — the same fundamentals that underpin every crafted god-roll in the current sandbox. Is the tutorial lengthy? Somewhat. Is it worth the effort? For anyone planning to chase endgame builds, absolutely. After all, what is a Guardian without a weapon made exactly to their liking?
